Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Hunters Sharing the Harvest is proud to announce that the organization has provided 1 million pounds of venison to hungry families throughout Pennsylvania since its inception.
Over the last 25 years, the Hunters Sharing the Harvest (HSH) venison donation program has coordinated the processing and distribution of donated deer and wild game to hungry people throughout Pennsylvania. Sourced from hunters and municipal herd reduction management, a single, average-sized deer will provide enough highly-nutritious meat for 200 meals. During the 2015 hunting season alone, 109,750 pounds of meat were donated to HSH, resulting in 532,800 meals throughout all 67 Pennsylvania counties.
“We’re so proud of the work we’ve accomplished and to have reached this milestone,” said John Plowman, Executive Director and one of the founders of the program. “Our dedicated team of board members, coordinators, sponsors, legislators and state and local agencies work in concert with one another with a common mission and that’s when great things happen.
This sportsmen-inspired community outreach program effectively fulfills its mission via an integrated network of approved deer processors and food banks in our urban and rural communities. HSH has evolved as a respected partner with deer management practices throughout the Commonwealth.
To celebrate HSH’s 25th anniversary, a variety of events will be taking place throughout the hunting season including fundraising luncheons and dinners in both Allegheny County and Luzerne County, contests, and more.
