Donate a deer

Venison donations by Pennsylvania hunters could improve the lives of families suffering food shortages during COVID-related layoffs. Last week the state Department of Agriculture asked hunters to consider donating deer to the nonprofit Hunters Sharing the Harvest through designated deer processing centers throughout the state.

Last year, the Department of Agriculture renewed a five-year contract to provide up to $145,000 annually to defray the costs of processing donated venison. Distributed through Hunters Sharing the Harvest in frozen blocks of ground meat, venison from a single deer can provide up to 200 meals.
