Pennsylvania’s Hunters Sharing the Harvest Program has announced significant new financial support from the FirstEnergy Foundation, our latest corporate utility sponsor operating throughout Western Pennsylvania, where we have a major operating presence and impact.

The FirstEnergy Foundation is funded solely by FirstEnergy Corp., and provides support to non-profit, tax-exempt health and human services agencies; educational organizations; cultural and arts programs and institutions; and civic groups in areas served by FirstEnergy’s 10 electric operating companies and in areas where the company conducts business.

HSH wishes to thank FirstEnergy Foundation President Dee Lowery, Linda Moss, President of Pennsylvania Operations for FirstEnergy, and Community Involvement Manager Rosemary Spoljarick for their outstanding cooperation in developing this milestone sponsorship. The grant process was initiated while working with Jane Clements-Smith, CEO of Feeding Pennsylvania regional food bank network, a partner program of HSH.

The grant will be used to expand donated venison processing operations and program promotion to reach more recipients needing food security, as well as additional deer processor recruitment throughout FirstEnergy’s service area for the 2017 hunting season.

The HSH program recently observed its 25th anniversary of service, with well over 1,000,000 pounds of donated venison delivered to food banks across the state to help fight hunger since 1991. During the 2016 hunting season, the program achieved its greatest result to date—close to 119,000 pounds of venison from caring and compassionate Pennsylvania hunters was distributed.
